International Olympic Committee inspectors for the 2008 Beijing Games are making their eighth visit to the Chinese Capital. They were updated on the progress being made by the Olympic organizers, and visited some facilities that are nearing completion.
The IOC Coordination Commission members held a meeting with the Beijing Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games, or BOCOG, on Tuesday.
Organisers briefed the inspectors on their latest preparations for both the Olympics and the Paralympics, highlighting venue construction, environmental protection, and media services, all crucial to ensure a successful Games.
After the meeting, they played some friendly matches of table tennis, part of a nation-wide campaign to encourage more Chinese people to participate in sports.
Later in the day, IOC and BOCOG officials visited some of the Olympic venues currently under construction, including the high-tech National Stadium named the "Bird's Nest" and the nearby Aquatics Center, dubbed as "Water Cube".
Inspection chief Hein Verbruggen told reporters that he was happy to see that all projects are going well.
Hein Verbruggen said, "I'm very impressed; it's great experience."
Organizers say venue construction will be completed as scheduled.
The Coordination Commission inspections last until Thursday.
