Beiding
Temple of the Goddess
(BEIJING, Jan. 28) -- On January 28, to the west of the National Stadium, a
huge blue crystal stood tall out of the ground. The National Aquatics Center,
also known as the "Water Cube," was complete.
Close to the "Water Cube" is a temple relic of the Ming Dynasty, which is
known as Beiding Temple of the Goddess. In an effort to protect the temple and
its surroundings, the "Water Cube" was relocated more than 100m northwards from
the originally planned site.
This Ming Dynasty architectural relic is one of the famous "Five Peaks and
Eight Temples" in Beijing. Located on the north extension of Beijing's central
axis, it adds great value in terms of the city's planning and architecture.
