IOC Olympic Treasure Exhibition China Tour opens in Beijing.
(BEIJING, August 8) -- The IOC Olympic Treasure Exhibition China Tour, themed "One World One Dream" opened in Beijing Wednesday morning.
Officials attending the opening ceremony included Liu Qi, President of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG), member of the Political Bureau of the 16th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and Secretary of the Beijing Municipal CPC Committee; Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC); Liu Peng, Minister of the General Administration of Sports, President of the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC), and Executive President of BOCOG; and Wang Qishan, Deputy Secretary of the Beijing Municipal CPC Committee, Mayor of Beijing, Executive President of BOCOG.
In his speech, Jacques Rogge expressed that the IOC Olympic treasures showcase the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect, and also use an Olympic value angle to teach the younger generations around the world. The exhibition's opening in Beijing is an important activity of the one-year countdown to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, and it symbolizes a milestone in the history of the Olympic Treasures Exhibition.
Liu Peng expressed that the exhibition's first time in Beijing, and its first time out in the world, will certainly motivate all the people of China to participate in the Olympic Games and support the Olympic fervor.
The exhibition is sponsored by the IOC, COC, and BOCOG and organized by the IOC Olympic Museum, the Jiangsu Province Dongheng International Group.
Its first time outside of Europe, the Olympic Treasure Exhibition includes displays of the torches and medals of all of the past Summer Olympic Games. After Beijing, the exhibition will travel to 13 cities around China, including Shanghai, Qingdao, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Hangzhou etc, and will conclude its tour in Tianjin, on the eve of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games opening.
